These Workshops are for Introductory Teachers and Junior Intermediate Teachers working towards Teaching Certificates and for any teachers keen to work on the postures in the 3 syllabuses at this level.

Introductory Teaching Certificate in Iyengar Yoga

* Please note: The first term is probationary.

Entry Requirements
  • 3 yrs regular weekly practice with an IYA (UK) member Iyengar Teacher
  • Written recommendation from your regular teacher to confirm the above
  • Practice of the postures from Introductory Syllabus Level One and Level Two
  • Dedication to Iyengar Yoga
Costs
  • Attendance at a candidate selection day [11th May 2009 tbc]: £25
  • Membership of IYA(UK): Annual Student Membership £13.50
  • Registration fee once selected: £32
The Course
  • 120 hours over two academic years [min of 50 hours before Level One Assessment]
  • A monthly Training Day usually 10am — 4.30pm Sun [occas. Sat]
  • Attendance at weekly classes with a Junior Intermediate level teacher or above where possible
Practical Assessments 2 practical assessments in the two year course
  • Level One Assessments take place in June / July
  • Level Two Assessments take place in October

Each assessment is conducted by a Moderator (Senior Teacher) and three Assessors (at least of Intermediate status).


Each assessment consists of examination at the appropriate level [1or 2] in:

  • personal practice
  • teaching ability

A pass at Level One is required in order to progress to Level Two.

Written Assessments
  • 2 x written assignments each year, marked by your trainer
  • 1 x Personal Questionnaire which must be completed before each practical assessment
  • 1 x Anatomy paper which must be passed before the first practical Assessment
Costs In addition to ENTRY COSTS [see above]
  • Course fees: £500 (w.e.f. 2008) per year payable in 3 instalments: £170 + 2x £165
  • Exam fees: currently £55 (Level 1) and £88 (Level 2)
